Majestic Mountains
With a very low number of daily skiers compared to the amount of terrain and snowfall, Furano is without question one of Japan's best kept secrets.
Located in the heart of central Hokkaido, Furano is one of the best ski resorts in Japan when we’re talking about all-round characteristics. With an abundance of terrain options it boasts a vertical drop of almost 1,000 meters. The resort consists of two zones, Furano and Kitanomine, which combined have multiple terrain options including lift-accessed trees and side/backcountry off-piste areas.
While many Japanese resorts have been influenced by western culture, Furano still retains much of its authentic and traditional charm. For those “in the know”, Furano is all about powder snow (lots of it) and uncrowded slopes.

Internship Insights
For anyone seeking something a little bit special, our instructor internship in Furano might just be the course for you. Both the training and employment package will be delivered by our resort partners, Furano International Snowsports School (FISS). They are the biggest international school in the area, with an established reputation and a number of highly qualified international examiners on the team.
The Snowsports School is split into two separate teaching pods, one for senior instructors covering high end private lessons, and the other for rookie instructorsspecialising in group lessons for children and adults. Once the level 1 training and certification is complete, you will transition into ski school training. Following this you will start instructor employment, putting your newly acquired skills to the test with real-time lessons and paying clients. After the busy new year period, you will begin your advanced training towards the level 2 certification and take an avalanche awareness course. The level 2 exam will be completed towards the back end of the season to give you the best possible chance of passing.
Throughout your time in Furano you’ll follow a curriculum set out by the New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance (NZSIA) or Snowboard Instruction New Zealand (SBINZ). The qualifications gained are internationally recognised and interchangeable.
